Rainbow Village and an innocent heart

Rainbow Village is an Military Dependents’ Village located in Taichung, Taiwan. It got its name  because of the colourful drawings on the walls and grounds all over the village.

The man behind it is Huang Yung-fu, aged 91, and came from Hong Kong during the World War 2. He started to paint these imaginative and colorful creatures from his home, Aug 09, in order to “kill time”. And his neighbors loved his paintings and so let him paint their houses. This old village was planned to be demolished, but now developed as a cultural area thanks to the these happy and inspiring paintings ;)

When I first saw these works I couldn’t believe they were all from an old man. He started to draw at 09…that means he was already 87!! It must take much love and energy to carry out this large-scale creation! His innocent and generous heart also touched me. He had written many blessing words on the walls wishing visitors good luck. Picasso said,  “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.” Think Picasso would be amazed by Hung’s paintings if he’s still alive:P
